The past and present

Having just gotten my flat exactly 2 years ago, I didn't wait to start cooking once the renovation was completed. I enjoy cooking even though I'm not very good at it. I have my ups when the dishes were promptly wiped out with compliments in one meal and my downs when I had to call and inform that dinner plan had to be cancelled because I simply screwed up in cooking. But one thing for sure, with each failure I grow wiser in the kitchen.

Perfect example of how my dishes elevated in these 2 years.

I had no knowledge of cooking prior to having my own kitchen mainly because the kitchen is my mum's prized possession and she's terribly afraid that I will mess up the area. I ever attempted to make a pot of ABC soup to impress my then boyfriend (now husband) while my parents were overseas but all I did was to dump the ingredients in water and bring it to a boil. Obviously it came out bland and tasteless and it still remained as the classic worst soup ever in their memories. Now, I can proudly say that the soups I make are presentable.

I watched a lot of Masterchef and Gordon Ramsay cookery videos and hence I'm more inclined to western cooking and emphasize a lot on presentation. I also enjoy preparing Japanese and Korean cuisine as it's much easier to prepare than 三菜一汤. Will be sharing more on the recipes of the successful dishes I've made. Stay tuned!

About CatFurCookery

Hi, I'm Clare from Singapore. I'm an avid lover of cats and cookery and hence I'm dedicating this blog to these two passions of mine.

Why catfurcookery?

It's actually an inside joke made by my brother when he tasted the banana cupcakes I made and he commented that it's the best banana cake he ever had. I was overwhelmed with excitement over the compliments and immediately baked another batch and then came the highlight of the joke. He found a cat fur at the bottom of the cupcake and he claimed he was pretty traumatized with a pinch of drama. From then on, he will keep reminding me that if I ever write a cookery I must name it catfurcookery because that's my signature dish.

But I must emphasize that my cat, Cookie is a free roaming cat around the house but she's never allowed on the kitchen counter, food preparation area and the dining table. The most I will allow is for her to sit on the dining chair and watch us eat with her puss in boots eyes exclaiming "Feed me, human!"

Till date, the curious case of the extra cat fur still remain a mystery.
